Why you need Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids are known as essential fatty acids (EFAs), which the body cannot make but they are absolutely necessary for normal development and growth. These fatty acids were initially developed as "Vitamin F", until the researchers realized that they must be classified with the group called fats.  Scientific evidence shows that omega-3-fatty acids can reduce the risk of sudden cardiac death. Why is this so?
When the electrical impulses that control heart rhythm become rapid or chaotic the heart may suddenly stop (arrest). Death normally follows quickly in the absence of immediate emergency care. What researchers have found is that Omega 3 fatty acids may help prevent this sudden cardiac arrest by controlling the electric impulses that regulate heartbeat.

Scientists also believe that omega-3 fatty acids can improve one's blood lipid (cholesterol and triglyceride) levels and decrease the risk of coronary heart disease. Because omega-3 fats reduce inflammation, they help to prevent inflammatory diseases like heart disease and arthritis. In addition to warding off inflammation, omega-3’s are also essential to the brain, impacting behavior and cognitive function, and are especially necessary during fetal development.

It is now known that Omega 3 actually plays a large role in the development and growth of your baby when it is in your uterus. After all, your baby relies on you for the vitamins, nutrients, and calories he needs throughout his development. Omega 3 foods can provide your baby with the energy and materials necessary to good physical and mental growth.

Having an Omega 3 deficiency while you are pregnant can prove very harmful to you and your baby. Your baby takes Omega 3 from the foods that you eat. The nutrients cross the placenta, helping your baby to grow and develop. However, if your baby does not get enough Omega-3 from the food you eat, he will begin to take it from your own stores. Researchers believe that these stores may be located in the brain, which can result in a loss of up to 3% of your brain cells.
